The South Lot is buzzing with activity!
It’s quite the endorsement when the local wildlife, especially a Monarch, shows up for a site inspection before the shovel even hits the dirt. A special thanks to everyone who made this possible including the Landscape Committee; Karen Martins for research, design and plant selection; Glenn Frey for providing the botanical names; and Sharon Watson for project oversight and supervision. If you are as interested in the new plantings as the pollinators are, grab a full list of the botanical names and a site map from the whiteboard outside the office. We hope you enjoy 'watching us grow'.
Other Landscape Improvements.
The Center is undergoing a major landscape overhaul to improve water efficiency, funded through grants and local water authority programs, resulting in “little to no net cost” to the Center. This project is made possible through a grant focused on water conservation efforts. The first requirement is to remove the existing grass. The front south lot and specific back sections will be sprayed and treated for removal prior to installment of “drought tolerant” foliage and decomposed granite. To ensure the treatment works and, for your safety, stay away from these areas and keep pets away from the treated sections. Treated areas will be marked with caution tape. While it might look a bit "under construction" for the next few months, these improvements serve a long-term goal of significant reduction in water usage and lowering maintenance and landscape costs.
