The little hummingbird sitting atop our Homepage Banner is the Anna's Hummingbird, beloved to all residents who enjoy watching the little birds feed at their flowers and feeding stations. Anna's Hummingbirds are year-round residents of our community and they chirp and soar above our homes all day long, adding to the joy we all feel living in such a peaceful and happy neighborhood.

December 16, 2016
You may have noticed that the population of our local Anna's Hummingbirds declined in early December. Often when temperatures fall (especially at night), they head west to the coast where it is a bit warmer. So they've most likely been sunning themselves in Del Mar. Today, however, with the rain, it is a bit warmer. They have come back in full force where they know they have a steady food supply, so keep your feeders full. If you're lucky, you will see them taking a shower in the rain by fluffing, shaking and preening their feathers.
You may also notice another little hummer who looks like the photo below. These are Allen's hummingbirds and they mix in quite amicably with the Anna's.
